Monday Randoms

I cannot stop watching this video and wishing I was there!  Nikki emailed it to me.  :)  We're a mildly obsessed with Disney World and the Magic Kingdom.

Next up, do you realize Christmas is less than 12 weeks away?  I have no idea how I'm going to pull it off this year, you know, while I'm busting my butt in nursing school and trying to even just barely maintain sanity.  I have a feeling lots of you are feeling the same way, and I'm loving Simple Mom who has a plan.  12 Weeks to a Peaceful Christmas.  (Yeah I laughed too at first, but I think she's onto something!)  First up, Week 12: Prepare Your Holiday Budget and great topics each week until Christmas.  She has plans and downloads, and I think I might just be able to pull it off.  I love you, Simple Mom!

For some cute pictures of pets in Halloween costumes, you have to check out Good Housekeeping's 3rd Annual Halloween Pet Costume contest.  I won't enter Haylie seeing how much she loathes any form of clothing, but I wish I could!  She was a ballerina one year, a pumpkin another... but she just hated it so much.  People like my cousin (Hi Heather!) will love this site so check it out. A great time waster too.  You know, when you have a huge nursing exam in the morning... yeah, perfect for that!  ;-)

Well last week was nuts, this weekend was packed (I took Nikki to the Taylor Swift concert - got floor tickets for her birthday), and this week is going to be no calmer!  I'm excited though because on Friday at clinical, instead of working on the floor I get my "alternate experience" which is outpatient oncology.  That means I get to hang out with the nurses there all day and see what I can learn.  It should be really fun, and I'm excited about it.  Then the following week is our last week of peds!  The remainder of the semester is Maternal-Newborn Nursing, which honestly, I'm not looking forward to.  But we'll see, maybe it will be better than I think.  Hopefully so.  So today I'm studying, tomorrow is class and an exam, my first experience with acupuncture (not even kidding), and then Wednesday I have my girls.  Their mom made L Bug's 2 year old and Baby's 1 month appointment to be at the same time which means double shots, double screaming, double the fun.  Good thing I have Thursday to recover, wait, scratch that, I have Thursday to finish my 12 page nursing paper which is due the following week.  The fun doesn't end!

Have a great, chilly, autumny week!  :)

To go back

Life is so stressful right now.  In a world of final exams, doctors appointments, nannying, deadlines, and just the day to day stress... I am reminded of a place that has been my safe haven since I was just a year old.  A place that somehow makes you forget about whatever problems you used to face and inspires you to believe, dream, and hope.

May 2009: If only I could go back and be right here, right now:

My sister and I are going back the first chance we get, but who knows when that will be.  Thankfully our timeshare doesn't make it too difficult, but schedules seem to be the big thing right now.  I guess we really are grown-ups now.  When did that happen?  I wish it'd stop.

Blogging from FLORIDA! -part 2-

Blogging from FLORIDA!
Part 2

I'm back!  Today is Pool Day, and it's too hot outside (97* yesterday!), so I will sit inside and blog.  Sounds like a good idea to me! :)

Well I believe I left off right before Saturday, which was a fabulous day.  Definitely one of the best.  We commenced our day at Animal Kingdom where I had to pass on my Minnie ears and buy some leopard print Mickey ears, you know, to get in the wildlife-jungle-safari spirit!  We watched a few shows like the Lion King and Finding Nemo and walked all around and met Lilo & Stitch (much to Nikki's excitement... she is convinved Stitch is Haylie)  By mid-afternoon, I was bored in my least favorite park, the Percocet wasn't doing enough for my back, and I was falling asleep during shows, so I took the bus back to the condo while my parents and sister stayed to ride the you-will-get-soaked rafting ride, etc.  I was much more comfortable doing nothing but catching up on my beauty sleep for my evening with Minnie and Cinderella.

Once everyone else got back, I hurried to get ready, and Dad and I went to the park earlier than our dinner reservations so I could see Minnie Mouse.  The line was so long that Mom and Nikki, trailing behind, actually got to join us for 2/3 of the line and meet Minnie & Mickey as well.  By the time we were at the front of the line, I was jumping up and down like an excited little kid.  (True excitement or the Percocet... it's your call!)  Minnie was so excited to see me for like the billionth time of my life, and I reminded her that she is my favorite!!  We took pictures and got autographs and hung out for a few minutes until I felt bad for the little kids in line so I said goodbye and Mickey gave me a kiss.  (Don't worry Jonathan, he's just a mouse.)

Of course, it was almost time for our dinner reservations at Cinderella Castle, so we checked in there and waited for Cinderella to come down.  While we were waiting, one of  her coachman played a few games with us.

Can you name the 15 Disney movies with one-word names?  ("The" doesn't count)
Bambi, Cars, Aladdin, Cinderella, Fantasia, Pinocchio, Hercules, Mulan, Tarzan, Pocahontas, Ratatouille, Dumbo, Dinosaurs, Bolt, Wall-E

Can you name the 7 Disney movies that contain absolutely no human characters?
Robin Hood, Cars, Lion King, A Bug's Life, Chicken Little, Dinosaurs, Bambi

What are the only 4 wishes the Genie could not grant?
Can't make anyone fall in love, can't kill anybody, can't raise the dead

What are the names of Cinderella's stepmother and stepsisters?
          Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, Drizella

What are the names of the 4 fairies in Sleeping Beauty?
          Flora, Fauna, Merryweather, Malificent

Name the 7 dwarfs.
Dopey, Sneezy, Bashful, Doc, Sleepy, Grumpy, Happy

I have to admit, I let the little kids answer first, but none of them knew so I scored the most points at all that Disney trivia.  When you're raised on it, you don't really forget it.  :)

Before long, Cinderella came down, and we all lined up to meet her.  Nikki and I went first, and of course, I was so excited!  We took lots of pictures with her, and then we went to wait for our Royal Invitation.  A castle attendant gave us magic wands and swords for us to take up to the dining room with us, and once we had the Royal Invitation, we proceeded up the 40-step spiral staircase to Cinderella's Royal's Table.  We were seated right at the window and were called "King, " "Queen," and "Princess" for the entire evening while we were waited on like royalty.  Our waiter was accommodating and efficient, and a palace worker delivered an 8x10 and a packet full of 4x6s of our portrait with Cinderella.  Also, a perk of a 9:25 reservation is having great seats to see the 10pm fireworks show, Wishes.  The lights dimmed and the show's music played just as if we were outside the castle watching in the dark.  We had fabulous seats to see the beautiful fireworks through the castle windows, and it was such a magical experience.  Next, our meals were served, and I enjoyed my pasta and grilled chicken.  We even got dessert - ice cream!  We were surprised when Cinderella's mice  came out, followed by the Fairy Godmother.  They sang and danced around the dining room and put on a show for us.  The Fairy Godmother told us that she's our Fairy Godmother, too, and whatever we wish for and dream of will come true if we believe enough.

After our wonderful dinner, we had a little bit of time to ride Dad's favorite ride, Pirates of the Caribbean, before going back home.  So we sailed and yo-ho, yo-ho'ed as the last riders of the day.  After that, we left the beautifully illuminated nighttime park and crashed into bed.

Sunday was Disney Hollywood Studios Day.  For all of my life, this place was called MGM Studios, and although the new name better suits the park, it's long and annoying to say.  Just my personal opinion.  Anyways... by the time we got up after our big night, we rolled into DHS just shy of noon.  We rode the Great Movie Ride before our lunch reservations at 50s Prime Time Cafe, a restaurant styled just like home in the 1950s.  (The server is your "cousin," and "Mom" is in the back cooking the food.  You will get in trouble if you're wearing a hat or resting your elbows on the table!)  After our delicious, homestyle lunch, we did all kinds of things around the park, some together, some by myself, some with just Dad, some with just Mom... it was pretty crazy.  I saw the Voyage of the Little Mermaid and the Beauty and the Beast shows, two of my favorites, and then while Mom and Nikki were seeing the stunts show, Dad and I saw Muppet Vision 3D, one of his favorites.  All 4 of us saw the High School Musical 3: Senior Year show, thanks to my sister, and then we participated as audience members in the American Idol Experience, which was so fun.  Then, we did Star Tours, and Dad got sick, and other unnamed people were crabby, so we ended up going back to the room.  Nikki wanted to go back to Magic Kingdom to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Tomorrowland rocket ride, and Dumbo, so Mom took her back in to do just that.  Dad went to bed, and I chilled and finished my Jodi Picoult book.  :)

The thing about Disney is that you cannot go-go-go-go from morning until night for days and days.  About 2 days of that and you'll be burnt out for the rest of the trip.  One of the books I saw said the average person walks 6-7miles/day at Disney, and that's in this heat and humidity that can often be unbearable.  Sure, Disney is amazingly fun, but it's hot, and exhausting, and there's lines and cranky kids and tired adults, and well, you just can't do it all without a rest here and there.

Today, everyone wanted to have a relaxing day before heading back home.  Dad is out fishing, Mom is by the pool, I'm here blogging, and my sister is still asleep.  We're pretty much "Disney'ed-out" and ready to go home.  We've had a truly wonderful time, and we've all been able to enjoy the break from our day-to-day monotony and have some magical fun.

Later today, we girls will probably hit up the "other" outlet mall in the area, the one where I bought the Crocs flip flops, the one that is the 2nd largest outlet mall in the world.  (Yay!!)  Then, we have dinner reservations at one of our favorites, Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge.

Tomorrow, we fly home... I think our flight is around 2?  Not sure.  But I believe I heard something about getting home at 4-something.  Can't wait to see my puppies and my fiance!

xoxo

Blogging from FLORIDA!

Blogging from FLORIDA!

Yes, finally, I've had the time to get a post together!  This trip has been a whirlwind so far, but no one ever said Disney World was a relaxing destination.  Definitely amazing and magical and special and fun, but just not really by definition, "relaxing."  Picture it - screaming and children and lines and crowds and parades and 95* weather and walking and shows and humidity and overtired people of all ages.  Oh and overpriced food.  Lots of overpriced everything.
Just a side note, Jonathan posted 3 videos in the post below this, and we made them at EPCOT.   Aren't they fun?  Also, I am vlogging almost every day, but the connection isn't cooperating with uploading my videos (and pictures), so words will have to do.  :)

Well, we're staying at the Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa as I said the last time I posted (the night before I left for Florida)  We got in on Tuesday, and first checked in and explored our beautiful condo.

We were starving, so we ate lunch at the Artist's Palette, a casual restaurant in our hotel.  There were little easels at the tables for kids to draw pictures, so of course, Nikki and I couldn't resist and picked up some crayons and went to work.  A cast member saw us and excitedly told us we were both the artists of the day!  She took us to the middle of the restaurant where we held up our pictures while she yelled, "Ladies and gentlemen, today is extra special because we have not one, but two artists of the day!"  Everyone applauded and we got little certificates and lots of stickers.  Yeah, we're just so cool like that.

After getting settled in, we caught a boat from our hotel to Downtown Disney where we spent the late afternoon and evening, eating at the Rainforest Cafe and shopping around Disney's busy, bustling shopping-dining-entertainment district.  Once we were overtired, or far past it, we caught a bus back "home."  Then we slept.  Until the sun came up.

Wednesday, we started our vacation off with the biggest dose of Disney possible: the Magic Kingdom.  We braved the May heat and rode rides, saw shows, and sat for an hour to reserve our prime parade-viewing spot.  We met characters, got run over by strollers, ate Mickey ice cream sandwiches, and made a few wishes.

Poppop was supposed to come up from his home in Port Charlotte and meet us on Thursday for a day at EPCOT, his favorite park, and dinner at Cape May at the Yacht & Beach Club Resort.  We thought he might enjoy an extra day at Disney, so we asked him if he'd like to stay 2 nights with us instead of 1 and join us at our day at the Magic Kingdom.  Of course, he was as excited as a little kid and arrived within a couple hours.  While we were waiting for him to arrive via train into ToonTown, I bought myself the coolest Minnie ears ever (a headband with two ears and a bow, of course!) and greeted him in style.  I paraded all around the park in them, totally getting into the Disney spirit!
Well, the excitement and miles of walking and the cute flats I just had to wear... well yes, you guessed it.  Blisters and sore feet.  :(  Solution? The Crocs outlet store!  Yay! My fantabulous father took me to the Orlando Premium Outlets (the 2nd biggest outlet shopping center in the country!) where I found some cute pink and white Crocs flip-flops.  So comfy.  :)

For dinner, everyone else caught a snack at the Artist's Palette, and Dad and I just ate in the room.  Lazy.  Then bedtime.

Thursday was EPCOT day.  We spent the morning in Future World and then made our way to the World Showcase, where we stayed until it was time for dinner at Cape May, one of our favorite Disney restaurants.  We all stuffed ourselves at their delicious buffet, and then we hurried over to the Magic Kingdom to see Wishes, their nighttime fireworks production, after we saw from afar Spectromagic, Disney's amazing illuminated parade.

Wishes was the highlight of the evening, and it was just as - if not more - magical as it was when I was about 3 feet tall.  Not only was the show spectacular, but just seeing the fireworks overtop Cinderella Castle and hearing the familiar, comforting Disney score was enough to culminate about a thousand emotions and memories, almost making me forget that life is not what it was when I really did believe Minnie Mouse was my best friend and Cinderella, duh, lived in that pretty castle.  Life was so simple back then, and even though I dealt with many things in my childhood, Disney World was always our safe haven.  Always.  It was a completely separate world where nothing was wrong, the princess always married the prince, and good always prevailed.  I'll never forget how devastated I was when I first saw a zipper on the back of one of the character's costumes.  That was the first day I ever thought about my "carafer friends" (as I called them in my evening prayers) not being real.  The first day I realized the simple days were then and forever completely over.  So anyhow, that's why Wishes was truly a magical experience for being much more than a simple fireworks show.  (Not to mention that the word "simple" is not in Disney's vocabulary... these fireworks were breathtaking!)

After the show, we joined the massive sea of people sleepwalking out of the Magic Kingdom.  We waited in an unbelievably long line to catch a bus back home, and once we did arrive, we were pretty much in bed and asleep in no time.

I slept in until 11am on Friday while my family went to check out the pool.  When I woke up and joined them, I heard that they had just met Shane Minor, a famous country songwriter.  (He wrote two Number One singles: "Brand New Girlfriend" and "Beautiful Mess," as well as songs like "She Thinks She Needs Me," and "International Harvester.")  Apparently, Shane gave my dad and sister his phone number and said to call anytime we wanted to come back to Nashville.  He said we could stay at his ranch and see the recording studio.  He also assured us that if we ever needed country concert tickets, he could hook us up.

We always seem to meet random interesting people on vacation.  Anyways...

Not too long after I eventually got to the pool, the Florida heat became a little too much, so we went to the Contemporary Resort to rent a boat.  We sailed around Disney's Seven Seas Harbor, passing by the Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Wedding Chapel, and Magic Kingdom a few times.  The breeze alleviated the intense heat, and we enjoyed relaxing on the water.  Once we were done, we headed back to the room to get cleaned up and choose a restaurant for dinner.  We knew we wanted to go somewhere outside Disney, and Dad had his mind set on a fancy steakhouse.  We narrowed our options down to a few before finally deciding on Vito's Chop House across Orlando.  Dad enjoyed his zillion-course meal and ate until he couldn't eat anymore.  And with that, the once-per-vacation, over-the-top, enjoy-it-just-to-make-Dad-happy, fancy-schmancy dinner requirement was sufficiently satisfied.

After dinner, we planned on going shopping, and thankfully Mom remembered that Star Trek was out.   We pulled into the nearby Cinemark and of course, there were several showings, and Dad was just in time for one of them.  We dropped him off, and he was so excited to see the movie he's been waiting on for months.  Of course, all involved parties were extremely happy with that arrangement.  Dad didn't have to go shopping, we didn't have to feel rushed with Dad dying for us to quit shopping, Dad got to see his movie, and well, it just really worked out.

We girls went to 2 outlet malls, Festival Bay and Orlando Prime Outlets. We went to Festival Bay just for one store - Nikki has been wanting to go to a Ron Jon Surf Shop for years so we let her experience the surfy-goodness of Ron Jon for the first time. before heading down the street to Orlando Prime Outlets.  Nikki was excited to go to Under Armour, Oakley, and all her sports stores, Mom was hoping to find some new sunglasses, and I was just eager to shop at their impressive list of stores. While I paraded around Coach and Victoria's Secret, Nikki bought new Nikes and 2 pairs of Oakleys.  I helped Mom pick out 2 new pairs of totally cute sunglasses, both polarized, one photochromatic, and Mom helped Nikki choose the Oakleys while I was off shopping on my own again.  We all spent about $150 each and were totally elated about our deals.  I got a new Coach bag and datebook - both 50% off - and Haagen-Dasz too.  Not bad, right?

It came time to pick up Dad, so we did just that and got to hear all about how great he thought the movie of his favorite TV show was.  On the way back home, we stopped at the huge 2-story McDonalds that Nana and Poppop used to take us to as kids.  Definite fun.  Then, of course, same story... we were sooo exhausted so we pretty much went right to bed.  Well after I saw Thursday's Grey's Anatomy of course.  (Of course, no DVR on vacation... so getting my show was quite a feat: 2 failed download attempts, 2 software issues, 3 software downloads, and a way too amazing fiance.... I might add)  The 100th episode was so great, and all of the actors were phenomenal as usual, and I cried and cried because there was a wedding and a romantic-heart-wrenching scene or two (Katherine Heigl is amazing!!), and well you get the idea.

Onto Saturday?  Well today is going to be another craaaazay day!  I don't know why, but if last week was any indication, well, I just know it.  :)  I have a dinner date with Cinderella and I am visiting Minnie Mouse, so at least two great things will be happening for sure!  I think we might go to Animal Kingdom for a couple hours and go back to the Magic Kingdom, but we'll see.  Tomorrow we'll be at Disney Hollywood Studios, and Monday we'll be relaxing at the pool and maybe shopping while Dad goes fishing.  We're hoping to have a last relaxing day before flying back home.

I miss my two furbaby princesses and my fiance and my Itty Bitties and my friends and my family and everyone, but I am actually having an amazing time, and I'm enjoying the break from the life I have back home.  I'm trying not to even think about things I have to do or appointments I have to make or phone calls I have to return.  This is my week of peace from the insanity, and this is my special time in my special magical place.  I'm trying to make wishes and dream dreams and do everything this place stands for.  It's all in the perspective, you know?  And Minnie ears definitely help.  ;-)
So until next time.... have a magical weekend, and ponder these words:
You never know the biggest day of your life is going to be the biggest.  The days you think are going to be big ones, they're never as big as you make them out to be in your head.  It's the regular days, the ones that start out normal, those are the days that end up being the biggest.

You don't recognize the biggest day of your life until you're right in the middle of it, the  day you commit to something or someone, the day you get your heart broken, the day you meet your soulmate, the day you realize there's not enough time because you want to live forever.  Those are the biggest days, the perfect days, you know?
{{Izzie, Grey's Anatomy 5.22 }}
Watch the beautiful ending of Thursday's Grey's Anatomy, you know, where vulnerable, scared Izzie cries and then succumbs to what is beyond her control. Watch Alex.  Watch him feel her pain and see beyond what she sees.  That most perfect kind of love you think is only on shows like this?  Well, that's the love I am blessed beyond words to have.   The love I will never take for granted.  The love that I share with a guy that I am, at the moment, missing entirely way too much. <3

We get clouds and they get Mickey

So Amanda is gallivanting around Walt Disneyworld right now while I sit on her couch caring for the most beloved dogs. By the look of these videos, she appears to be having fun. Dare I say magical fun.

She keeps telling me how much she misses me and how much she wishes that I was there. I wish I was with her of course, but the thought of my sarcasm in Disney's happy land at the ripe age of 23 makes me think Amanda would rescind my invite at some point. See when I go shopping with Amanda I get weird. Really weird. I say funny weird things that I would never say otherwise just because I have to keep myself entertained. So when I think of being in Disneyworld, all I can picture is me tripping goofy or awkwardly hugging Gaston or some other thing that would embarass Amanda more than anything else would. Oh well. I'm sure at some point we'll make it there together. For now, enjoy Amanda, Nikki and their Pop Pop having fun.

Blogging… as opposed to packing…

Packing is overrated.  I thought that this afternoon while I was getting massotherapy followed by a pedicure, and I still maintain that thought right now while my back is throbbing and all I want to do is snuggle with my fiance and then go to bed.

Tomorrow, I leave for DISNEY WORLD!!  You guys have no idea how totally psyched I am about this!  Nikki and I grew up going to Disney twice a year, so we're definitely in major withdrawl and are ready to go have more fun than a 5 year old with a Minnie hat, a princess dress, and a giant swirly Main Street USA lollipop.  Not. Even. Kidding.

In the morning, our little fancy pants will fly first class to Orlando, and tomorrow evening, I lined up reservations for the Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney!! We have a timeshare with Disney Vacation Club and our regular resort, Old Key West, was booked, so we're staying at a new resort, Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa.  (Spa? Yes, please!)  Internet is $9.95 per 24hrs but I'll try to blog as I can.  Come show me some love as I chillax in the Happiest Place on Earth!  Chillin' with the Mouse, ya know....  :)

Any of you going to Disney? I've been reading the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World (which is the Disney Bible, and has been in my family since I was a tiny little girl) and enjoying WDW Info for the scoop and MouseSavers for the deals.  And pleeeease, make reservations for dining early on!  (Some restaurants open booking at 6 mos, some only allow 90 days)  We have a few nights of ridiculously late reservations since we were a little late with it.  Oh well.

Anyhow.... just saying hi and bye and whatever.  Next time I talk to you, Jonathan will be puppy-sitting his "daughter" Haylie Brooke and his goofy friend, Riley.  And for yours truly?  I'll be back in my happy place!!  :)
